Nyamira MPs hail assembly for ousting corrupt officers
Nyamira
Members of Parliament have commended the county assembly for its bold
move in ousting of senior officers in the executive implicated in
corruption allegations.
Addressing the press in Kisii town, the coca
s led by Dr. James Gesani of West Mugirango and his counterpart,
Timothy Bosire of Kitutu Masaba constituency, they lamented Nyamira
residents were considered as second class citizens subjected to
governance that do not abide by the constitution.
“We reject our innocent voters and citizens being subjected to jungle
law and misrule that is crafted for the illegal benefit of a selective,
few. After a bold step taken by the assembly, we call upon Auditor
General and Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission Authority (EACC) to
launch their independent and in-depth investigations to get the bottom
of the Nyamira county corruption crisis,” called on MP Bosire.
Mr.
Bosire told the suspects not to lean on their respective clans instead
carry their own cross and prove innocence of the gravely matter.
On
his side, Dr. Gesami said they will sternly put the county government on
spot check and whistle-blow on the corruption and bad governance for
the public to be aware of their rights and know the usage of resources
allocated to various projects.
“We will not relent with our
watchdog role of monitoring the government’s step and we must tell the
public when their resources are blatantly abused by the county
government,” reiterated the legislator.
He added, “This was just but
the beginning. We MPs are prepared to go to all lengths and take
enormous risks to help wananchi and ensure that those given public
office serve honestly and within the stipulation of laws of Kenya,
because we have the mandate of the people for protecting the
constitution and their rights to the latter.”
The two said the top
leadership of the county at the helm of Governor John Nyagarama owed
Nyamira residents explanation about corruption mess in the county.
They advised Mr. Nyagarama to resolve in driving corruption purge to
clean up his government and restructure his leadership in order to get
the county back on track.
The two legislators represented their
colleagues; Women rep Alice Chae and MPs Charles Geni of North Mugirango
and Ben Momanyi of Borabu constituency.
The five parliamentarians
from the county have been at logger-heads with governor Nyagarama in the
recent past accusing him of poor governance and shielding corrupt
officers.
In the Auditor’s report, the four executive members
implicated in the misappropriation of funds include; Education Minister,
Peter Ogwara, who in the report is alleged to have embezzled Sh12
million, Kepha Osoro in charge of roads and public works, ECM for
Finance and Planning, John Omanwa and Executive Member for Water and
Sanitation, Andrew Ombati. The other two officers suspended by Nyamira
governor John Nyagarama are chief officers.
